Tolliver D Washington

CPT Tolliver Washington serves as the Assistant Professor Military Science at Tulane University, New Orleans, LA, and is a native of Baton Rouge, LA. He enlisted as a Private First Class with the Louisiana Army National Guard in 2001  as a 21W (Carpentry and Masonry Specialist) assigned to the Alpha Company 769th EN BN, 225th EN BDE. He later re-classed as a 21E (Heavy Construction Equipment Operator) with the 922nd DET-1, 769th EN BN and accepted an E-5 / team leader position with the Unit. He commissioned through the Louisiana Army National Guard Officer Candidate School (Accelerated) in August 2012 and branched Engineer as a 2nd Lieutenant. CPT Washington deployed ISO Operation Enduring Freedom, 2013-2014, as a Route Clearance platoon leader clearing routes through Southern Afghanistan. 

CPT Washington holds a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing from Southeastern Louisiana University and Masters in Homeland Security with a Minor in Criminal Justice from American Military University. He is a member of the Epsilon Pi Phi Honor Society and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.

Major (MAJ) Amber Clay

Major (MAJ) Amber Clay serves as the Professor of Military Science (PMS) at Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana. Prior to this assignment, she served as the Brigade Adjutant for the 290th Military Police Brigade, Nashville, Tennessee.

MAJ Clay’s previous assignments include two combat deployments to Kuwait in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation New Dawn. Key assignments include:

MAJ Clay commissioned through ROTC at The Unsinkable Albany State University with a Bachelors of Social Work. Her military education includes Adjutant General Captains Career Course, Postal Supervisor Course, Adjutant General Basic Officer Leader Course.

MAJ Clay’s awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with Three Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and the Overseas Ribbon (2nd Award.

MAJ Clay is a native of Atlanta, Georgia by way of Albany, Georgia. She currently lives in Mandeville, Louisiana with her husband Ozier. They have three children: Kenzli, 12; Kelci, 4; and Karter, 3.

SFC Jesse Reed


SFC Jesse Reed is originally from Columbus, Nebraska. He attended OSUT at Fort Knox in 2006 where he was awarded the MOS of 19K. Following graduation of OSUT SFC Reed served as an M1 Armor Crewman with Apache Troop, 1st Squadron, 3rd Armored Calvary Regiment at Fort Hood, TX from 2006-2011. SFC Reed was deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2007-2009 as an M1A2 Tank Crewman and ended the deployment as an M1A2 Tank Gunner. SFC Reed deployed with the same Troop, again, to Iraq in support of Operation New Dawn from 2010 to 2011, where he served his entire time as a Tank Commander. From there, SFC Reed served with Charlie Company, 1-8 Infantry, 3rd ABCT, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, CO from 2011-2016 where he served as both Tank Commander and Platoon Sergeant. SFC Reed deployed with Charlie Company in support of Operation Spartan Shield in 2015 as a Tank Platoon Sergeant. SFC Reed then went on to serve as a Drill Sergeant with Bravo Company, 1-81st Armored Brigade, Fort Benning GA. SFC Reed also served as the Senior Drill Sergeant for Alpha Company, 1-81st Armor Regiment, 194th Brigade. SFC Reed most recent assignment was serving as a Platoon Sergeant and Troop First Sergeant of Tomahawk Troop, 5th Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 2ABCT, 1ID, Fort Riley, KS.

Sergeant First Class Reed’s military education includes Basic Leader’s Course, Advanced Leader’s Course, Senior Leader’s Course, Unit Prevention Leader’s Course, Equal Opportunity Leader’s Course, Sexual Harassment Assault Response and Prevention Course, and Drill Sergeant Academy.

Sergeant First Class Reed’s awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, and Overseas Service Ribbon. Mr. Matthew Carter, originally from Chicago, Illinois ( GO BEARS!! ), is the Logistics Technician for Tulane University Army ROTC Program. He joined the Army in September 1998 and was awarded the MOS 11B. He served in the Military for 20 years, retiring October 2018. He is married to Mary Carter and has four beautiful children.

Aubrey J. Curtis, a native of New Orleans, Louisiana employed with the Department of the Army, United States Army Cadet Command, Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) for over 30 years as a Human Resources Technician.

Mr. Curtis was enlisted in the Unites States Army Reserve with twenty-six years of services and retired March 2013 as a Master Sergeant. Mr. Curtis was mobilized in support of Operation Noble Eagle, Fort Bragg, North Carolina and in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Mr. Curtis matriculated at Southern University at New Orleans earning an Associate of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information System.

Mrs. Anita Fortier McLendon is a native of New Orleans, LA. She is a retired SFC from United States Army Reserves after 24 years of service. Mrs. McLendon is a graduated of Dillard University and Tulane University. She is the Project Assistant and Office Secretary for the Tulane University ARMY ROTC Department, where she has worked for 18 years. She is married to Mr. Leonard V. McLendon III and is the mother of Deja and Jeremiah McLendon.

Ms. Yolanda Wade serves as the key point of contact to the Professor of Military Science regarding recruitment and scholarship management for the Tulane University Army ROTC program. Tulane University’s Army ROTC program also includes its affiliate universities: Loyola, Dillard, Xavier, University of New Orleans, Southern University at New Orleans, University Holy Cross, and LSUHSC.

Ms. Wade is also responsible for recruiting events, marketing, and advertising of the ROTC program. She supports and attends high school speaking engagements, career fairs, and a host of engagements that bridges the ROTC program to other activities, programs, JROTC schools, community services, and institutions. Ms. Wade began working in SROTC in 2007 as an instructor until 2013 when began serving in her current role. Additionally, Ms. Wade are a Sergeant Major in the U.S. Army Reserves under the 377th Theater Sustainment Command, Belle Chasse, Louisiana.
