Biography
Captain (CPT) Douglas Henderson, a native of Buffalo, NY, graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, concentrating in finance. He enlisted in the Louisiana Army National Guard in 2016 before attending the U.S. Army’s Federal Officer Candidate School, where he received his commission as Second Lieutenant in 2017.
After commissioning, CPT Henderson graduated from the U.S. Army’s Infantry Basic Officer Leadership Course in 2017 as well. Upon completing his training, he returned to Louisiana and pursued a career with the Gretna Police Department, graduating from their Police Academy in 2018.
While working as a police officer in his civilian career, CPT Henderson continued his military career with the Louisiana Army National Guard. His command and leadership assignments have included: Platoon Leader in DELTA Company 2-156 IN, Platoon Leader in the Scout and Reconnaissance Platoon 2-156 IN, Battalion Medical Readiness Officer of 2-156 IN, Battalion Unit Movement Officer of 2-156 IN, Company Commander of ALPHA Company 2-156 IN, and Bilateral Affairs Officer of Security Cooperation at the U.S. Embassy, Haiti.
CPT Henderson’s operational deployment to Iraq and Syria was in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. During this time, he was the Platoon Leader with the Scout and Reconnaissance Platoon 2-156 IN before being promoted into Command of ALPHA Company 2-156 IN.
CPT Henderson’s personal decorations include the Combat Infantrymen Badge, the Joint Service Commendation Medal (2 awards), the Army Commendation Medal with a Combat (C) device, the Department of State Superior Honor Award, the Department of State Meritorious Honor Award, the Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with a Mobilization (M) device, the Army Service Ribbon, the Army Overseas Service Ribbon, the Louisiana National Guard War Cross Medal, the Louisiana National Guard Emergency Service Ribbon, the Louisiana National Guard General Excellence Ribbon, and the Louisiana National Guard Longevity Ribbon.
